Welcome to Tarbut Senior

At Temple Beth Israel there is something for everyone from the youngest in age to the young at heart. Tarbut (culture) is designed for our more mature Congregants. Tarbut hosts monthly discussions and outings. A great way to keep in touch with the Temple during the golden years.

Tarbut at Temple Beth Israel, offers the Jewish seniors in our community the opportunity to meet old friends, make new friends; to enjoy ten (10) monthly programs of cultural and spiritual Judaism, Jewish life and Jewish learning.

Tarbut also presents various forms of entertainment and topics of interest to seniors. All this with a generous portion of friendly exchange of news and views; with 3 (three) great (yummy) special luncheons per year as well as monthly refreshments with door prizes and more.

For more information on Tarbut or just to schmooze, please contact:

Jeanne Fischer, 909-626-9252 or
Simon Saul, 909-946-4768

See you soon. Shalom. Simon Saul, Program Chairman.

TARBUT SENIOR HAPPENINGS - MAY, 2010

Get ready for a ‘tune-up’! Our May and June programs will be musical ones.

On Wednesday, May 12, 2010, after our BYOB noon lunch, in the Rabbi Earl Kaplan Social Hall, Dr. Michael McGaha, the famed Turkey-and-beyond traveler, will take us on a musical journey, while discussing the history and different styles of Sephardic music, and will play samples of some perennial favorites. Come and plan to sing along.

Refreshments will be available for our enjoyment, for a donation of $2.

Information regarding our Annual June Musical Program with Hazzan Buch and Accompanist Polevoi will be available in the June issue.

PLEASE NOTE: We need volunteers to fill the vacancies on our Planning Committee. As stated in our April issue:

“At the February 24, 2010 Planning Committee meeting, Yvonne Cheyney tendered her resignation as Secretary to President Jeanne Fischer, effective July 1, 2010. Also, Simon Saul tendered his resignation as Program Chairman and Treasurer to President Jeanne Fischer, effective July 1, 2010.”

Please call Jeanne Fischer, 909-626-9252, genias005@aol.comfor questions regarding these positions; and, more importantly, to offer your services.

TARBUT SENIORS HAPPENINGS - JUNE 2010

HOLD THE DATE! June 9, 2010. Tarbut’s Seventh Annual Recital. At noon, in the Sanctuary. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. to allow ample time for seating. Please be prompt; in respect for, and consideration of, our superb musicians: Cantor Paul Buch and Accompanist Randy Polevoi.

After having our hearts kvelling at the concert, we will adjourn to the Social Hall to treat our palates with pizza from The Warehouse. With delicious desserts, fruit, and door prizes. All this for the nominal donation of $5.

Yes, desserts. Thanks to our door-prize lady, Helen Fluger, we will be treated to various kinds of individually-packed ice cream. Choice of about half-dozen flavors. Enjoy!

Please keep in mind that our monthly Planning Meetings take place at 10:30 a.m. on the last Wednesday of each month, excluding June, July, and August, in the Beit Midrash. Next meeting date is May 26, 2010. Planners enjoy coffee, confections, and conversation while conducting business. Please come and make Tarbut a vibrant group.

We extend thanks to the many seniors who have helped us through the years to make Tarbut a place for learning, schmoozing, filling our eyes with tears of laughter and sometimes sadness, making new friends, enjoying time-honored friends, and generally experiencing the world as seniors.

We will relax during the summer, returning on October 13, 2010. Please note that there will not be a September program, due to Rosh Hashanah being observed on September 9-10, 2010.

REMINDER: PLEASE NOTE: We need volunteers to fill vacancies on our Planning Committee.

Shalom from your Planning Committee members Jeanne Fischer, Helen Fluger, Yvonne Cheyney, Marilyn and Sy Kalter, Beverly Sloane, and Simon Saul.
