Who was Private Pierre Cruzatte? He was of French and Omaha tribe Indian heritage who enlisted with Lewis and Clark on May 16, 1804. Speaking the Omaha language, and skilled in sign language, he was of valuable assistance in councils between the Indian tribes and Lewis and Clark.
Cruzette often entertained the explorers with his exuberant fiddle-playing during non-work periods, especially during the winter of 1804-05. Often, along the way to the Pacific, he joined with the villagers in their singing, dancing and frolicking.
Sponsored by Gloria Slosberg, long-time member and supporter of Temple Beth Israel, we are happy to present her son, Mr. Daniel Slosberg, who, as a fully-costumed Pierre Cruzatte, will be our boatsman, interpreter, hunter, and musician for an expedition across North America to the Western Ocean. Daniel’s exciting program is entitled: Pierre Cruzette: A Musical Journey Along The Lewis and Clark Trail.
Our program will start at NOON, on November 12. Please be seated in the sanctuary by that time. Following the program, we will enjoy our BYOB lunches. An assortment of refreshments will be available, for which a donation of $2 will be appreciated.
Hold the date! December 10, 2008, for our Annual Channukah Luncheon. The works. We look forward to the participation of our Sharon Hadassah and Temple Sholom of Ontario friends.
Please keep in mind that our monthly Planning Meetings take place at 10:00 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. Planners enjoy coffee, confections, conversation, and even conduct business! We look forward to seeing you there.
See you soon. Shalom. Simon Saul, Program Chairman.
