K’HILAT CHESED - CARING COMMUNITY - November 2010
Thanks to Cantor Paul’s inquiry, we are pleased to furnish you the information below from the National Office of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America (JWV). You may want to share this with family and friends who may benefit from this information:
The JWV has a program to send packages to our troops. It’s our SOS program. If you have the addresses of troops from your community, please send them to us, and we will get packages out to them for Chanukah or any other holiday. Contributions can be made to National Headquarters, 1811 R St., NW, Washington, DC 20009, ATTN: SOS program. Thanks.

You may be pleased to know that JWV has a Post in our Inland Empire. We meet monthly at the Loma Linda Veterans Hospital, very near the Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. I will be glad to furnish you with additional information regarding our Post. 909-921-7346. simonsaul@yahoo.com.
As part of Caring for our service members overseas, Debby Mendelsohn has initiated a Shabbat program. Below is the email I received from Debby:
“The project I have initiated is called Shabbat for Soldiers. For an $18 donation, individuals can sponsor a Shabbat care package that will be sent to Soldiers serving overseas. The package includes: shipping fees, Challah, cookies, dried fruit and nuts as well as a certificate on which people can write a personal message to Jewish Soldiers serving overseas. The care packages will be delivered to the Chaplains serving with our troops. Checks can be made payable to TBI and certificates are available in the temple office.”
PLEASE REMEMBER: November 11, Veterans’ Day.
Shalom. Simon Saul.
